Following Jesus
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?
Following Jesus will be the best decision, and the most adventurous decision you will ever make. Choosing God's way and not our own is one thing we are called to do as followers of Christ. (Matthew 16:24-28, Luke 9:24-27). There were people in the Bible who stopped what they were doing and immediately followed Jesus (Matthew 4:19-25, Luke 5:27-33). We follow the ways of Christ for our own benefit (1 John 2:3-4), and a real follower of Jesus bears fruit (John 15:16-17). Know that following Jesus does not mean everyone's going to like you (Matthew 10:22). Being a follower of Jesus Christ requires you to allow Him to affect every part of your life (Matthew 16:15-16).
HOW DO I APPLY IT?
Following Jesus is an action of our heart and our mind. It is not something that we just chose once, but something that we choose everyday of our lives! It means we believe in Jesus and what He said and did. We believe Jesus is the Son of God, that He died for our sins and that He was raised from the dead. We live our lives in a way that shows people that we love Jesus with our actions and our words. This means that every day we live life with Jesus. Praying to Him throughout the day, telling others about Him, loving others as He did, learning from Him, listening to Him, sacrificing for Him, giving to Him; all of those things mark a Christian. Giving our time, gifts, and money for others, praying for others, and serving the world around us - these are all ways to be a follower of Jesus.
